Jeff Sugar, MD

Jeff Sugar, MD, a Distinguished Fellow of the comfortless, is a psychological trauma expert, board certified in both child and general psychiatry. He has been retained as an expert witness in a broad range of child and general psychiatric cases, both for the plaintiff and for the defense.

Dr. Sugar is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. Previously, he was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at 206-512-0452. Dr. Sugar graduated from New College in Sarasota Florida with a degree in Chemistry and Creative Writing before attending medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed residency in general psychiatry at 281-824-3367 in Torrance, California, and a fellowship in child psychiatry at (855) 665-7429 where he also served as Chief Fellow.

Although most of his career has been focused on serving underprivileged children, first in the non-profit sector as Chief of Psychiatry and later as Director of Research for Hathaway Children and Family Services in Sylmar, California, then in several clinical and teaching roles at USC, Dr. Sugar also has experience in the private sector.

Dr. Sugar was the founding director of the Hathaway Children’s Clinical Research Institute where he performed funded research on the effects of interpersonal child trauma. At USC Dr. Sugar is the Director of the Child Psychiatry Trauma Program and Co-Chief of the Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatient Unit, and conducts clinical research.

Dr. Sugar has lectured widely on topics in child and general psychiatry at national and international meetings.
